Welcome to Madeira Island

We are very pleased to invite you to the 14th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Clinical Virology, in Funchal, Madeira, 21-24 September 2011. This meeting will cover hot topics of clinical virology, as well as a wide range of other themes, from fundamental research to epidemiology, diagnosis, prevention and therapy, maintaining the high scientific standards of previous meetings of this Society.

The archipelago of Madeira includes the islands of Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens. Madeira is known for its friendly people, exceptional natural beauty and mild climate, and also for its natural environment, where the most important feature is the Laurissilva Forest, a relic of the Tertiary Age, which has been classified by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site. It is also well known for its year-round outdoor sports. Its traditions and customs, visible in its old buildings, museums and churches and even in regional products like its wine and embroidery, have lasted for centuries.

So, we hope you won’t loose this opportunity to combine science and leisure in 2011!

Looking forward to meeting you in Madeira,

Paulo Paixão Vitor Duque
Chairman Co-Chairman
